The 17th Annual Herbal Forum at Round Top will be held on March 16th and 17th and will focus on The Rose, Herb of the Year 2012.  On Friday there will be optional participation workshops covering subjects such as creative herbal potpourris, making delectable culinary creations with floral essences, and grilling with herbs.   Friday evening will feature the optional Herbal Forum Presenters’ Dinner.

On Saturday the Concert Hall will host lectures by Ethne Clarke, editor-in-chief of Rodale’s Organic Gardening, on growing roses organically; Mike Shoup, owner of The Antique Rose Emporium, on choosing the right rose personalities for your garden; landscape designer Cherie Foster Colburn on using roses, herbs, and other wonderful plants to make the most of your landscape; and by Festival Hill gardens director Henry Flowers on the history, lore, and uses of this most wonderful and historic herb.  Saturday’s events will also feature the blessing of the garden with herbalist Lucia Bettler and live music, a picnic-style herbal buffet luncheon, and a demonstration on the Concert Hall stage of many ways in which the rose can be utilized.

Along with the Herbal Forum’s educational events,  the Pioneer Unit of The Herb Society of America will be presenting a large herbal plant sale on the grounds next to the Concert Hall and an herbal gift shop of handmade items in the Service Building (both open to the public at no charge).  Lucia Bettler will also be hosting her always wonderful Lucia’s Garden Book Store, full of treats for the eyes and brain of any avid gardener.
